WRC 2015

It is with an extremely heavy heart that I post this very last post on the WRC blog.  Why, you ask?  Mohegan Council has decided that there was a need for a change in camp directors for Webelos Camp going forward.  Ryan and I will no longer be involved in either of the cub scout camping programs at Treasure Valley.  While we wish the new director, Jay Eager, all the luck in the world, it absolutely kills us that our time at camp is done.  Never in a million years did we picture ending our camp tenure this way.  We owe a huge thank you to all our amazing staff members, campers, camp coordinators, and other supporters of our program.  We hope every boy that has come through WRC has had an amazing experience and has gone or will go on to do amazing things as boy scouts.  Always remember the fun we had...campfires, dance parties, dining hall cheers, Boonesville games (and some gone wrong!), swamp romps, exploding watermelons, and so much more!  It's been the best 5 years of our lives!

As a courtesy to all those packs out there, this blog will remain up until the first of 2015 at which time I will take it down.  The WRC email will also be deactivated at that time.

#ShowYourShirt

We finally have our first camper picture for our #ShowYourShirt contest!!  We challenge all our campers, past and present, as well as parents, leaders, and staff to join in the fun!  With the Valley's 90th birthday approaching in 2015, we're celebrating by taking pictures in some sort of TVSR/WRC/CSDC shirt and either emailing it to us (webelos_camp@charter.net) or posting it on the Webelos Resident Camp Facebook page.  This is Ronald C from pack 118 proudly wearing his 2014 WRC t-shirt!

#ShowYourShirt

We've started a new "contest" for the upcoming 2015 summer camp season called Show Your Shirt.  Treasure Valley is turning 90 years old this coming year and we want to celebrate by showing our valley spirit everywhere we go.  We are challenging our staff, campers, TVSR alumni, and anyone else that just loves camp to join our fun.  Simply wear something related to Treasure Valley:  a shirt, a hat, a day camp shirt, a webelos camp shirt, etc and take a picture of yourself wearing it somewhere fun.  You can email the pictures to us at webelos_camp@charter.net or you can post them on our facebook page.  As you can see below, some of our staff guys have already accepted the challenge--WILL YOU?????

Photo: We'd like to thank everyone for a GREAT 2014 camp season!! In honor of the 90th anniversary of our beloved Treasure Valley in 2015, we're issuing this challenge to all our staff, campers, and valley supporters--take a picture wearing some sort of TVSR shirt. It can be a staff shirt, WRC shirt, CSDC shirt, etc and post a picture on Facebook or email it to us and we'll post it on the blogs. Let's see how creative everyone can be. We'll come up with some sort of prize for the most creative pictures. Here we are enjoying a "vacation" at the Kittery Trading Post in Maine. Very disappointed though...they didn't have slushies!! #ShowYourShirt

Advancements are up!

I know many of you have been anxious to see what advancements were done at camp, and now they have been updated on our advancements page.  If you have any questions, please let us know.  That being said, I promised more pictures and here they are.  I'd like to thank Rick Cehon from pack 123 for acting as photographer!

Stay tuned since I'll add more photos once I find where I saved them to!  Also, check out the Webelos Resident Camp Facebook page for a fun new contest!  https://www.facebook.com/#!/webelos.r.camp

Pictures from Friday

I want to apologize for not posting anything last night.  We had our staff appreciation dinner which took up most of my evening.  I do want to take a moment to thank everyone for attending our closing campfire for 2014.  I also want to thank our staff for making 2014 a year to remember.  You guys are tremendous!  Please enjoy these pictures from our last day!

Our annual water carnival--cancelled on Wednesday due to the rain though Friday wasn't much better!  Kids still had fun though!

Polar bear plunge early Friday morning. We had to cancel our ever popular Swamp Romp due to the depth of the swamp after Wednesday's rain.
It was super chilly but we did have a good amount of brave souls take the challenge.

Please keep checking back as I will be going through the pictures from other photographers and posting them. I will also work during this coming week to update our advancement page.

Thank you everyone for a terrific WRC summer!! If you have ideas for a theme for next year, please comment on this blog and let us know your thoughts!

PS--anyone who bought a customized WRC tshirt...they are fine to put in the washer machine.  It's best to turn them inside out before washing, but they should last quite a few washes before they start to fade.  We have one from 2 years ago that gets washed once a week and it's still in pretty good shape.  Thank you to everyone who purchased these shirts!

Last Full Day of Camp : (

After a day full of rain, today was a wonderful, refreshing day!!  It was a great day for drying off clothes and airing out tents.  We had a special presentation on the Asian Longhorn Beetle this morning that the boys enjoyed.  Tonight's evening program included a campwide twister game and our closing camper campfire.  The weather has turned cool, but that didn't stop our boys from enjoying an ice cream social sponsored by the Order of the Arrow.  A great way to finish off a great week!

In science today boys got to launch a life sized trebuchet.  I'll try to post video of the launching soon!
This is what happens when staff gets a hold of my camera!

Reminders for tomorrow's pick up...

Please do not arrive in camp before 3:15pm.  The boys need to work as patrols to clean the sites and pack up their gear.  If parents are there any earlier than that, they get very easily distracted.  We will have our closing flag ceremony at 3:45 followed by our campfire starting at 4pm.  The campfire should last approximately 1 hour.  If for some reason you need to pick  your son up early from camp, you MUST check in with our camp director Ryan upon your arrival in camp.  You can call or text him at (774)200-1418.  DO NOT take your camper out of camp without checking him out with Ryan first.  We are still responsible for boys in camp!  Our trading post will be open before and after our closing fire, so please make sure you stop in to claim any money your scout has left.  The boys are all looking forward to telling you about their week!
